Biography:
Mami Kawai is a Japanese textile artist born in Tokio, Japan, currently living in Rome, Italy. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, including: the “Z krosna do Krosna” International Artistic Linen Cloth Biennial in the Museum of Crafts in Krosno, Poland in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014; the “Mezzo minuto di raccoglimento” in the Basilica di S. Ambrogio in Milan, Italy in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014; the “Fuutou” exhibition in the Alberto Boralevi Gallery in Florence, Italy in 2010; the “Air” 6th International Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art in Veracruz, Mexico in 2011; the Japanese Contemporary Paper Art exhibition in the “Mazda” Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2012; the “Art al vent” festival in Gata de Gorgos and Valencia, Spain (2012-2016); the “From Lausanne to Beijing” International Fiber Art Biennale in Beijing, China in 2012; the “Insurart” exhibition in the Archeological Museum of S. Antioco in Sardegna, Italy in 2014 and 2015; the Sofia Paper Art Festival in the “Mazda” Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2015; the “Memory of Textile” 17th International Minitextile Exhibition in Bratislava, Slovakia and Prague, the Czech Republic in 2015; and the “Textile Art of Today” exhibition in the Museum of History in Bratislava, Slovakia in 2015 and 2016.
Motto: Mami used pieces of old used cloths, not valuable anymore and about to be disposed, to which people pay no attention. She feels that pieces of old used clothe are fragments of worn-out heart.
