Biography:
Born in Greece, Elected permanent Ass. Professor of Textile Design and Head of the Textile Design Studio of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in Greece; with many International and Hellenic research programmes on Ancient, Traditional and Craft Textiles, Textile Design and Textile Design Education, and with many conference proceedings, books and the web; many international textile research, seminars and workshops, and over 20 Greek and international art exhibitions.
My work is inspired by Hellenic heritage, legends, myths and tradition, but it is approached and treated with modern technology. I combine the traditional techniques – painting, relief, batik, tie-dye, stencilling, block printing, collage and mixed techniques – with modern technology and computer work. Many times I go back to my previous beloved works and I transform them with the application of modern technology, as it has been with „Happy Face II”. I believe in Tradition and Traditional Textile Arts but I wish to experiment with everything new and go a step further. In this way I link the old part of my present viewpoint in textile art. For the final printings I use all traditional and computerised media, but I love and prefer the results on the natural fibres, like linen
