Elżbieta Kędzia was born on May 10, 1952 in Łódź. In the years 1971-1976 she studied at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Public Academy of Arts in Łódź. She graduated from Prof. Antoni Starczewski’s Studio of Gobelin Tapestry and Carpet and was awarded Diploma with Distinction. She designs artistic textiles and jacquard-woven textiles. In her artworks she uses typical weaving techniques, such as Gobelin tapestry, jacquard and electronic jacquard. In the years 1975-2014 Elżbieta Kędzia was an academic teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and a professor since 2004. From 2005 to 2012 she was a dean of the Faculty of Textiles and Clothing at her home university. She had classes in the Studio of Textile Art, the Studio of Computer Aided Fashion Designing and in the Theory of Weave Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2014, she has worked as a habilitated doctor professor at the Faculty of Textile Engineering at the University of Technology in Łódź, where she teaches the following classes: basics of composition, textile engineering and textiles in the usable area. She has participated twice in the International Triennial of Tapestry in Łódź as well as in most National Exhibitions of the Polish Tapestry and Miniature Textiles. Elżbieta Kędzia has held about 30 individual exhibitions and has participated in 100 group exhibitions. She has been a juror and commissioner of exhibitions in numerous International Symposiums of Textile. Since 2002 she has been a member of the group of visual artists “Młyn”. In the years 1991-2004 she was employed in the Private Secondary School of Fine Arts in Włocławek. Her works can be found in the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź, the National Museum in Poznań and private collections in Poland and abroad.
