Biography: Aleksandra Giros has been living and working in Poland since 2017 due to the political situation in Belarus. She graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts at Kosygin Moscow State Textile Academy. She continued education at postgraduate studies at Textile Academy in Moscow and graduated in 1995. Since 2011, she has belonged to the Belarusian Designers’ Union and to the Association of Polish Artists and Designers/Warsaw District. She has been taking part in the Bel-arusian Open-Airs of Textile Sculpture since 2013 and editions of the Symposium of Fibre Art “Creative Kowary” since 2018. She deals with art of fibre and unique fabrics, and works in the field of textile art in the felting technique, nuno-felting and dyeing fabrics using the shibori method. She designs fabric patterns and draws vector illustrations. She conducts her own work-shops on felting and hand dyeing. She uses traditional techniques, such as wool felting, dyeing of fibres and embroidery, which she treats as the basis for further creative searches resulting in felt compositions and textile sculptures. The titles of the works indicate the artist's close contact with nature and her fascination with natural fibres, such as wool, silk, cotton, istle, linen and plant dyes, which are the inspiration for the artist. Since 1993, she has been participating in exhibitions. Her latest exhibitions include Fel-trosa Festival, Nazzano, Italy – textile art and felt (2017); auctorial fashion show and silk felted scarves, DAP Gallery as part of the “Sztuka Włókna” exhibition (2019); “W kierunku słońca”, Dom Tradycji Miasta Kowary – individual exhibition (2019); 2019 – Międzynarodowa Wystawa Sztuki Włókna, Muzeum Tkactwa, Kamienna Góra – 3rd Prize by Agnieszka Sienkiewicz (2019); “W stronę słońca” Debiuty in the Textile Section of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers/Warsaw District, Warsaw – individual exhibition (2021); “Dotyk tkaniny” the DAP Gallery, Association of Polish Artists and Designers/Warsaw District, Warsaw (2021); “Powiew wolności”, Warsaw (2021); “Sztuka Włókna’, exhibition of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers/Warsaw District, Warsaw (2022).
Motto:
Intryguje mnie nierównomierność i swoboda filcu – jeśli chodzi o kształty zarówno jak i o kolory. Podoba mi się, kiedy kolory mogą się mieszać i przenikać nawzajem, jak w akwareli oraz to, że różne warstwy kolorów przeplatają się i tworzą wokół siebie nowe barwy. Lubię tworzyć porządek z chaosu i czuć, jak splątane włókna pod moimi rękami stają się potulne i jednolite. Ręcznie barwione rzeźby z filcu i lnu pod nazwą „Kosmiczne kwiaty" są wykonane z jednego kawałka filcu i płótna, bez żadnego szwu. Następnie ufarbowano je trwałymi barwnikami. W swoich pracach lubię łączyć różne materiały, aby stworzyć wrażenie, że zawsze były razem.
